International Work
Since 1989, Bill Young/Colleen Thomas and Co. has been at the forefront of international activity in contemporary dance - participating in numerous collaborations and residencies overseas, ranging from early work in the former Eastern Bloc (including the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Russia and Slovenia), to later collaborations with artists in Canada, Asia and especially Latin America. They were recognized as one of the first US dance groups to perform, teach, and exchange with dance artists from Eastern Europe and to witness first-hand the profound change to that part of the world.
Their international activities have now expanded to many corners of the globe. The impact of years of overseas exchange is evident in the make-up of the company, which has evolved into a truly international group of dancers, including artists from Greece, Capo Verde, Venezuela, Germany, Albania, and China.
These projects have been sponsored by a number of agencies, including the State Department (US Information Service), the Fund for US Artists at International Festivals, the Suitcase Fund, Artslink, and the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
